Pasadena, lichens. 

North side of Bellefontaine, midway between St John and Orange Grove (325?), at base of Chinese? fan palms.  Fantastic lichen communities, and probably something new.

Lecania cyrtella [] [voucher] 

 GEN crustose lichen, on base of chinese fan palm, at edge of sprinkler zone, also present are large quantities of _Lecanora hagenii_
 THAL apparently absent, copious dark green granular, essentially just algae
 MED apparently absent
 APO clustered, appearing almost like squamules on first glance
rim prominant, decorticate, slowly disappearing, filled with algae, largish blocky cells
lecanorine
disk med brown with some pink, waxy-looking, some appear pruinose from granular white debris (from rim breaking down?) but not truly pruinose
epi lt brown, covered with 2-3um granules
hymen clear, IKI+ dk blue
hypo clear, para inseparable even in K, all K-
 SPORE clear, ellip, cells 1-2 (septum width-wise), walls thin and even, smooth, 10-12x4-4.5um, 8 per ascus

 

Northwest corner of Bellfontaine and Fairmont, base of eastern-most magnolia. Spectacular (for Pasadena) variety of lichens.
