Piptoporus betulinus [] [voucher] 

 GEN several scattered on small standing birch snag
 CAP 80+mm wide, kidney, convex, smooth, faintly cracked thin skin, dull-shiny, tan to brownish, margin blunt and projecting downward making a beautiful little "bumper" around the fertile surface
 FLESH to 10mm thick, white, smooth, soft
 PORE 4 per mm, brownish like surface, tube white ~4mm long, abundant teeth up to 2-3mm long in addition to tubes(!)

Thallus, at 10x.  Stack of 5 shots.

 GEN on mossy rock by road
 THAL vivid green, dotted with dk cephalodia, lobes crisped and up-turned, white bel w v fainy veins darkening brown toward center
 APO raised on erect fingers, longer than wide, reddish-brown, v curled into saddles or almost tubes, patchy green cortex on back

 GEN on moss on rock by roadl THAL well-branched, extremely d tom all over stems, foliage minute v finely divided and attached on the side, cephalodia pale brown and somewhat tomentose
 APO abundant, brown disks aging into dk brown lumps, rims disappearing, not pruinose, ~0.5mm, on branch tips only
Must be either S. paschale or S. tomentosum.
