Tough ID  not even sure of the genus or family!  I need to go out early tomorrow morning or late tonight to check fresh mushrooms for slime.  (Yes!  They are delightfully slimy!) No photos on the web (that I can find).

(20071006) Nathan Wilson (and indirectly Darvin DeShazer) suggest that this might be B. coprophilus.  Until I see some comparison of these species, it doesn't seem worth changing my ID.  Yes, the photos and brief descriptions I find for B. coprophilus on the web match well enough... but they overlap the other two almost completely, as well!

Spores, at 400x. Gills, at 30x.  Note, many of the spores are clearly borne in little regular groupings of four. Two nice ones, side view.

Panaeolus foenisecii []

FLESH to 2mm thick at apex, lt brown, v thin near edge
GILL to 2mm thick, close, free to barely adnate, brownish, v dk brown spores visible at 30x clearly in 4's (see photo!), v min white granular/cellular fringe visible at 30x
SPORE print dk brown, v dk brown, ellip, apic pore, smooth, hard to focus(?!), 1 cell, 13-14x8-9um
Haha!  I didn't recognize it because it was so young and dark and small.

Two old ones, shaded. Patch of old ones, sunny.

Agaricus californicus []
