Oaks in full sun.

| | THAL | | v narrow lacy lobes, mounded and ascending, lemon to sl orange yell, abundant coarse soredia at lobe tips, all sorediate below (apparently no cortex?), few pale rhiz |
| | APO | | tiny pimples (young?), several |
The entirely sorediate underside and "apothecia"(?) convince me it is not
C. concolor.

Leptogium corniculatum [] [voucher]
Melanelia subolivacea [] [voucher]

| | THAL | | lt grey, d white maculate, appress, lobes ~0.5mm wide, cor K+y, no soredia or isidia, white bel w extremely abundant black many-forked rhiz protruding and tangling in every direction forming a thick black mat, rhiz apparently unbr |
| | APO | | many, black, lecanorine, d white pruinose |

| | THAL | | cor K+ yell, long cilia all over, grey above, white below but breaking apart into diffuse soredia near marg, min pointy black cilia (young?) |
Thought it was
Heterodermia leucomela at first, but realize now it is obviously
Physcia tenella.
Physconia perisidiosa [] [voucher]
Usnea filipendula
| | THAL | | orange, no soredia, ascending mounded, abundant short pale tapering rhiz even under rims of apo |
Location 30b

Pines, a bit shadier.
Kaernefeltia merrillii [] [voucher]
Tuckermannopsis chlorophylla [] [voucher]
Tuckermannopsis platyphylla [] [voucher]
| | THAL | | brown, broad crumpled lobes, wrinkly, warty, some black dots and pycnidia (though hard to see), brown and naked bel, few apo |
Location 30c
Rocks on up-hill road bank.
Cladonia subfimbriata [] [voucher]
| | THAL | | | squamules | | abundant, nonsorediate but breaking up into small phyllidia, pruinose, thick |
| podetia | | to 15x1mm, lacking cortex, covered with almost fine to granular soredia esp near top where it is piled deep, coarser bel to v base, phyllidia and some tiny podetial squamules on lower quarter on most |
| cups | | to 4mm wide, ragged and a bit irreg, some proliferating around rim, d filled with somewhat fine soredia, pycnidia brownish-blackish, youngest podetia have no cups | K-, C-, KC-, P+r/o |
Too fine to be
C. chlorophaea, cups not constant enough to be
C. asahinae, can't be
C. fimbriata because young stalks not cupped, can't be
C. subulata because all but v youngest are cupped and there's no branching whatsoever. As it's new to
Nash I can't, of course, find info on it elsewhere. Who knows if it belongs in nCA.
Location 31
"Little" McClellan Rock; a little west of Six Rivers NF on Rte 36; just
a little east of what must be the real McClellan Rock; just west of ridge top where road bends to the right (going west). Open oak-grassland and igneous? outcropping. Obviously sees much cloud and fog.

| | THAL | | flattened, white below scattered green spots, v thin cortex |

Flavopunctelia soredica [] [voucher]
| | THAL | | usnic-green, conspic punctate pseudocyphellae in places inconspic elsewhere, soredia fine in strictly linear marginal soralia, black and sp rhiz bel to brownish at tips |
Brodo claims
F. soredica is not found in nCA, yet it very clearly has no laminal soredia, and the pseudocyphellae are not nearly as conspicuous as I've seen in other
F. flaventior specimens.
Leptogium pseudofurfuraceum [] [voucher]
