 Mushrooms

Daisies

Erigeron annuus

In full bloom all over.

Erigeron philadelphicus

Many are still in bloom, some just starting, many are done.

Erigeron strigosus

In full bloom all over.

Erigeron pulchellus

Haven't seen any of these in weeks.

Leucanthemum vulgare

These are all still in full bloom, many the same plants I photoed weeks ago.

Other Flowers

Asclepias quadrifolia

Still in full fl on upper logging road.

Ceanothus americanus

Just starting to fl at beginning of upper logging road.

Chamaelirium luteum

Mostly done.  Only the one plant at Mary-Wanda spring bloomed; the ones up the ravine did not.

Close-up of fl. Plant starting to bloom.

Euphorbia corollata []

Starting to fl in clear-cut.
LF alt, lance, sess, top 4 in a whorl
FL 5 green glands with showy white apps, symmetric and v flower-like

Gamochaeta purpurea purpurea

Few here and there, eg. in field above house and in parking area by the cabin. Bloomed a few weeks ago, now long finished.
 GEN herb
ST sev br'd at v base, decumb, tightly white flocc
LF alt, mostly caul, oblance, rounded tip, green and glabrate ab, d white tightly flocc bel, erect to spread, 40x10+0mm, atten base, appears to be decur but ony because wings of petiole stick to stem for a few mm
INFL tall narr spike of v short d spikes, lfy, heads urn-shaped until they're done at which point they open up and the phyls spread 90deg and fls fall out
PHYL sev imbr rows, ov, acum, papery, green to pinkish or purpish, 2x1.3mm, few sp flocc hairs at base
 RECEPT naked
 RAY none
DISC mostly pistilate (outside) w a few staminate in the center
FR cyl, straw, dotted with little warts (resin dots supposedly)
PAP 12 cap bristles, white, ant barbellate, fused and decid as a unit, 2-2.2mm (hard to get them to sit still!)

Lysimachia quadrifolia

These seemed to have reached and maybe even passed their peak.

Two superb fls. Fl.

Silene virginica

These seem to be at their peak, all over the upper logging road in clear-cut.

Mushrooms

Amanita inaurata

Found a beautiful one with obvious "strangling" ring of grey material above collared volva; this one by Mary-Wanda spring.

Spores, at 400x.  Marks are 2.5um. Close-up of caps, showing scurfiness. Clump from below. Clump from above. Clump from side.

Cantharellus minor? []

Just below the road where the upper logging road enters the forest, on moist mossy rocky bank.
GEN small mushroom, on moist mossy bank
ST to 90x3-5mm, narrowest at top, white at base to bright orange at top, solid to hollow at top, brittle but fibrous, thinly wh tom where white bel
CAP to 20mm, convex to dimpled, bright orange, yellish orange tom over scarlet base
FLESH soft, yell to orange to red, 2mm thick
GILL decur, bright yellow, some forked, 1 per mm or less, kinda thick and waxy, 2mm wide
SPORE print white? (failed), knobbed, colorless, smooth, ellip, 1 cell, 7.5-9x5-5.5um
It's possible these spores are contaminants.  Seems it could easily be C. ignicolor, too.  None mention the red undertones.  It is not Hygrocybe because of the fibrillose cap, although they look entirely too round and regular and straight to be Cantharellus, but I always have trouble getting a spore print from chanterelles.

Clavaria vermicularis

Another clump of thinner ones coming up in the path right next to old one above Mary-Wanda spring.  Old one still looks relatively fresh.

Young one, cap starting to expand.

Cortinarius subargentatus []

HUGE stalk, no volva, but still has a long way to go.

Spores, at 400x.  Marks are 2.5um. One seen from below. One seen from above.

Marasmius strictipes?

Scattered all over in leaf litter.  Occasionally joined in clumps of up to 3. Always associated with conifers.  Stalk varies from yell to cream, 2-5mm thick. Cap is bell-shaped w inrolled margin when young w a sorta waxy feel and a weak umbo.  Becomes whiter in age, and margin curls up and becomes quite brown.
ST 2-5mm thick, ochre-yell to creamy pale yell to white at v top, tends to be twisted a bit and not straight, fibrous, smooth, splits a bit but does not break when bent sharply, rather tough but not particularly rubbery, hollow
CAP 25-30mm, bell to flat, weak umbo, smooth, tacky, creamy to beige to brown at v marg, marg in-turned when young to ragged or up-turned when old
FLESH creamy, 1mm, tough but flexible, not breaking
GILL notched, 4 per mm, straight to wavy esp near marg, clean, lt creamy, to 2mm wide
SPORE print white, colorless, ellip, dimpled when dry, 1 cell, smooth, 6x2.5um
Thought this was Collybia dryophila for a while, but now I'm fairly certain the ones on 20060612 and 20060705 are that, whereas nthis one seems to match Marasmius strictipes better.

Expanded cap from above.

Pholiota aurivella

Oops, I seem to have missed its peak.  The cap did open, at least.

Cluster from below. Cluster from above. Cluster from side.

Crepidotus applanatus []

Just below road where upper logging road enters forest.
GEN tiny shelf fungi, on dead hardwood
ST none, fuzzy white where cap att to wood
CAP flat, white, 10-20mm wide, round, smooth
 GILL white, ?
 SPORE print white

Older one, from above.

Psathyrella delineata

Found one just above old road at foot of slope halfway between Messer's and Mary-Wanda.

Top view. Side view. Spores, at 400x.  Marks are 2.5um.  Note warts.

Thelephora vialis?

Two clumps in old road at foot of slope just before it crosses Messer's spring.

Spores, at 400x.  Marks are 2.5um. Bottom view of two. Top view of two.

Collybia "brown blotched smooth dimpled job"

Two mushrooms (not connected) in moss just above little side-spring at Mary-Wanda spring.
GEN med mushroom, scattered in moss
ST 70x4-5mm, thinnest just bel top, orange to pale yell at top to pale orange at base, smooth but w some irreg white fuzzy tufts, white mycelial mat at base sticking to mosses and leaves, hollow, tough but flexible, somewhat rubbery and not breaking or splitting
CAP 40mm, convex, v sl dimple in center, not striate, dry, smooth, slick, tawny to brown in ctr w lter yellish marg, some odd lt tan sm irreg blotches, looks like the cuticle is made up of interwoven filamentous cells (not a palisade)
FLESH creamy white, 1.5mm thick, soft and flexile but not breaking
GILL pale yell, adnate, 3+ per mm, unbr, straight, clean, 3mm wide
SPORE print white, colorless, ellip, dimpleda when dry, 1 cell, minute, 5x2.5um
Seems to be the same thing I found on 20060605.
