NC, Smokies, 20060604
CabinCove, various.

Spores, at 400x.  Marks are 2.5um.  Not white-balanced at all! Close-up of gills and velvety stalk. Small cluster, view from below. Small cluster, top view.

Flammulina velutipes []

GEN clustered med-size mushroom, on dead maple, growing out of center of cut through a thick long-dead tree
ST 10-20x3-4mm, hollow, black at base to yellow at top, finely clear puber all over, base sl thicker, kind of tough and cartilaginous, not rubbery
CAP viscid, yellow at marg to sl reddish golden brown in center, smooth, sl striate around marg, 10-40mm, round, convex, skin tough and the source of the sliminess
FLESH grey and watery, 2mm or so thick
GILL white to cream, 2-3 per mm, deeply notched, unbr, appear finely puber to gland-puber at 30x (huge cystidia)
SPORE print white, colorless, ellip, smooth, 1 cell, 6x3um
I feel fairly confident of this one, especially after observing the cystidia at higher magnification.  Seems I habitually undermeasure spore size, so I'm not concerned with my spores be a slightest bit too small.

Fr, at 30x. Fl, at 30x.

Galium pedemontanum

In lawn; in fl and fr.
 GEN tiny annual, erect
 ST hispid and ret scab
 LF 4, ellip, acute, hispid
 INFL 1-few in axils
 SEP none?
PET 4, green to yellowish, free, lance, < 1mm, spread
STAM 4, yell, min, alt pet
 OV 1, inf, 2 lobes
STYLE 2, stig tiny white balls at top, ~equal to stam
FR obcord, smooth, 2-lobed, lobes round, < 1mm, green

Spores, at 400x.  Marks are 2.5um.  Not white-balanced at all! Group in moss. Two in moss, view from below. Two in moss, side view.

Mycena clavularis-group []

GEN delicate tiny mushroom, scattered on dead maple among moss
ST white, 40-50x1.5mm, hollow, smooth, soft, somewhat fragile
CAP dunce-cap, 15mm wide, umber brown, dker at center, thin somewhat lter edge, translucent-striate nearly all the way to the center
FLESH v thin, watery grey, GILL white, close (3 per mm), 1.8mm wide, deeply notched but not free, sprinkling of white powder probably spores visible at 30x
SPORE print white, colorless, round, smooth but for germ pore, 4-5um
Doesn't match the description in Arora, but it is clearly closely related to this group of Mycenas.
