 ST stell tom
 BUD tiny globose
LF oblong, shallow to v spiny toothed, finely clear-stell ab and bel becoming glabrate ab, becoming bluish ab in places?

These are just some other plants I took pictures of:

Beautiful clump in full fl.

Castilleja chromosa []

Close-up of cushion. Large cushion, done blooming.

Petrophyton caespitosum

A very fine set of colonies along a seep above camp.

Dried clumps.

Grimmia

Seems a fair guess, based on conspicuous bristle-tips and habitat.

Two paddles budding.

Opuntia polyacantha

Seems a fair guess, comparing it to my other close-up picture from Tucson.  It does look different in overall habit, though, doesn't it?

Particularly spiny plant, in fl.

Sclerocactus whipplei

Going by Taylor: barrel cactus with hooked spines and purple-magenta flower.

Sunning itself.
