fruticose, on pine twig thallus   usnea, bushy, v pap and d vari-length "fibrils" all over (but just min pap bel apothecia) medulla   wh and cottony, not as hard as U. strigosa, C-, K+ yell but fading, KC- apothecia   broad green disks, cil w fimbrils, d short pap bel

Ramalina sinensis [] 

GEN

fruticose, on pine twig thallus   semi-pend, fan from one pt of att, few br'd, flat, retic-ridged, broad, few perforations, no warts or granules, 20x4mm or so, lt grey-green, base v blackened cortex   C-, K-, KC+ yellow briefly apothecia   many, at br tips, green, flat, disc, 4-7mm wide

Pseudevernia intensa

foliose, on pine twig (inside usnea above) thallus   fan from one pt of att, reg dichot br'ing, narr lobes antler-like, rolled under strongly, 0.5-1mm wide, lt grey, dull w black dots near tips on some brs, pure wh bel, tips browned, no granules etc no apothecia cortex   K+ yell, C- medulla   K-, C+ pink turning white again rapidly

Definitely Pseudevernia, and keys pretty readily to P. cladonia but only P. intensa should occur in the southwest.  Problems with P. intensa: no apothecia present, undersurface white, cortex smooth.  But could just be young specimen, I guess...

foliose, on pine twig thallus   loose att in center, yell olive green ab, black bel, no cilia, finely wrinkled bel, short unbr? black dense rhiz in center bel, conspic wh pseudocyphellae all over esp rim of apothecia, black tiny dots near marg, bumpy surface, lobes ~10mm, K+ green/yellow, C-, KC+ deep yellow medulla   white, K+ faint yellow, KC+ sudden but brief red-pink, C+ deep but brief red apothecia   lots, deep brown, cups, to 5mm

Flavopunctelia flaventior 

GEN

foliose, on pine twig thallus   loosely att in center by sparse rhiz, no cil, grey green, bumpy, sev wh irreg pseudocyphellae esp near marg where not obscured by soralia, d cover w large clusters of soredia, lobes 5-6mm, K+ green/yellow, C-, KC+ deep yellow medulla   white, K+ faint yellowish, C+ red, KC+ red no apothecia
